The Hamilton Coalition on Pesticide Issues is dedicated to the phaseout of non-essential outdoor use of chemical pesticides in the City of Hamilton in a coordinated effort with the community.
The goals of the HCPI are to provide information about the health risks from pesticide exposure, provide information on alternatives to chemical pesticides and to gain public health protection through a municipal by-law/policy in the City of Hamilton.

Provincial Legislation to Restrict Pesticides
Ontario has promised to enact legislation to restrict lawn and garden
pesticides that would protect 12 million Canadians from toxic lawn
chemicals. If the legislation passes, it will be an important step forward for public health. However, the chemical industry is fighting it every step of the way.

Lawn and Garden Pesticides: Reducing Harm Video
The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) has produced a video on lawn and garden pesticides. This unique 10-minute video sets out the scientific evidence linking commen household pesticides to a variety of serious illnesses, including cancer, reproductive problems and neurological diseases.

Hamilton citizens may also request delegate status to present at the March 31, 2008 meeting of the
Public Works Committee. Interested citizens must register to speak at the Committee meeting either by
completing a Request for Delegation form available on the City of Hamilton Web site and submitting it to
the City Clerk’s Office, Attention Carolyn Biggs, or by e-mail to cbiggs@hamilton.ca The completed
Request for Delegation form can be forwarded to the City Clerk’s Office by fax at (905)546-2095. All
requests must be received by 4:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2008. |
